Who we are
CheckMyHalal is a free halal food verification platform built to help Muslims and anyone interested in halal dietary requirements make informed food choices quickly and confidently. We maintain a comprehensive, searchable database covering products, brands, food additives (E-numbers), restaurant chains, and city-level halal dining guides across the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, and Germany.
Our mission
Making halal food choices easier. Halal verification should not require hours of research, phone calls to manufacturers, or guesswork. Our goal is to provide a single, reliable resource where anyone can check the halal status of a product, ingredient, or restaurant in seconds — for free, with no account required.
We believe every consumer deserves transparency about what is in their food and how it was produced. Whether you are shopping at a supermarket, ordering from a chain restaurant, or reading an ingredient label, CheckMyHalal is here to help.
Our methodology
Every entry in our database is verified using a multi-source approach. We do not rely on a single data point. Here is how we determine halal status:
1. Open Food Facts data
We analyse product data from Open Food Facts, an open, collaborative database of food products from around the world. This gives us access to ingredient lists, allergen data, and label information for thousands of products sold across our five target countries.
2. Official certification body cross-referencing
We cross-reference products and brands against certification records from recognised halal certification bodies in each country, including:
- UK: Halal Food Authority (HFA), Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC), Halal Trust, Muslim Food Board UK
- US: Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA), Islamic Services of America (ISA), Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), American Halal Foundation (AHF)
- Canada: ISNA Canada, Halal Monitoring Authority (HMA), Islamic Food Council of Canada (IFCC)
- Australia: Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC), Islamic Coordinating Council of Victoria (ICCV), Supreme Islamic Council of Halal Meat in Australia (SICHMA)
- Germany: Halal Control (HC), Europäisches Halal Zertifizierungsinstitut (EHZ), Halal Zertifizierungsstelle (HZS)
3. Manufacturer declarations
Where possible, we verify information directly from manufacturer websites, product packaging data, and official company statements regarding halal certification and ingredient sourcing.
4. Ingredient-level analysis
For products not explicitly certified, we analyse individual ingredients against our database of 170+ food additives. Each additive is classified as Halal, Haram, or Mushbooh (doubtful) based on its potential sources and manufacturing methods.

Editorial process
Our database is updated regularly as new products enter the market, certification statuses change, and restaurant chains update their halal offerings. Each update follows this process:
- Data collection — new product and certification data is gathered from our sources.
- Cross-referencing — data points are compared across multiple sources to confirm accuracy.
- Classification — products are classified as Halal, Haram, or Mushbooh based on the evidence.
- Review — entries are reviewed for consistency before publication.
- Publication — verified entries are added to the live database.
If you spot an error or have updated information about a product, brand, or restaurant, please contact us so we can investigate and update our records.
Important disclaimer
CheckMyHalal is an informational resource. While we strive for accuracy, halal certification and ingredient sourcing can change at any time. Always verify with the manufacturer or restaurant directly for the most up-to-date and accurate halal status, especially for products classified as Mushbooh (doubtful). Our database should be used as a starting point for your research, not as a definitive religious ruling.
