Acetic acid is the main component of vinegar and is produced by the bacterial oxidation of ethanol. Even though it is produced from ethanol, the alcohol is completely converted to acetic acid, which is not intoxicating. Most scholars agree vinegar (and therefore acetic acid) is halal based on clear hadith permitting vinegar.
