Taurine is an amino acid naturally found in animal tissue, particularly bile. However, the taurine used in energy drinks and supplements is synthetically manufactured (from isethionic acid and ammonia). Major energy drink companies (Red Bull, Monster) have confirmed their taurine is synthetic. The name comes from 'taurus' (bull) because it was first isolated from ox bile in 1827, but modern production is entirely synthetic.
Listed as 'taurine' in the ingredients list.
